Basic Red Cabbage and Apples

  • 1-1/2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 lb red cabbage, trimmed, quartered and sliced
  • 2 Golden Delicious or Jonathan apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 tsp salt to taste (optional)

Melt butter in a heavy nonstick skillet over medium high heat. Sauté cabbage and apples 5 minutes, or until cabbage begins to soften. Reduce heat to medium-low. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover skillet and simmer 5-6 minutes, or until cabbage and apples are tender.
